poker hands

Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The numbers and letters on
the cards are called the 'rank'. The symbol on the card (heart, club,
diamond or spade) is the 'suit' The cards are ranked as follows
2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K-A
2 is the lowest value card in poker and
A is the highest.
The cards 'J-Q-K-A' are commonly referred to as Jack, Queen, King and
Ace. The 2 is sometimes called 'deuce'.
The 4 Suits Spades Hearts Clubs Diamonds
A poker hand can have up to 5 cards. Some combinations only use 4, 3 or 2
cards to make a hand. Poker hand combinations are ranked according to
the probability of that hand appearing. Rare combinations are
ranked high, the frequent common hands are ranked low
There are a total of 8 poker hand combinations. In poker, the suit of the
card is not significant. One suit is as good as another. The primary focus is
on the rank of the cards, and pairing your cards to make a hand

[1] Paired combinations
This is the most common poker hand. Pairing your cards is the
basic fundamental foundation of poker. To get 2 or more cards of
the same rank.
Of the 8 total poker hands, 5 are paired combinations.
[1] A Pair [2] 2 Pair [3] 3 of a Kind [4] 4 of a Kind
[5] Full House
[12] A Pair of Sevens
[13] A Pair of Aces
[14] Two Pair
[15] Three of a Kind
[16] Four of a Kind
[17] Full House
[18] A full house has 5 cards, combining
both 3 of a kind, and a pair

Let's look at [2]

[20] Consecutively ranked combination
is called a 'straight'. It consists of
5 cards ranked in order like
6-7-8-9-10 or 10-J-Q-K-A.
A straight can also be A-2-3-4-5.
making the ace the lowest value
card.
[21] A Straight
[22] The last combination type is the
'flush'. A flush is simply all 5 cards
of the same suit. The best flush
possible is an ace high flush.
[23] A Flush (ace high flush)
[24] And finally we come to the last
poker hand, the best possible
hand in poker. The 'straight flush'.
It combines the same suit
requirements of a flush with the
consecutive ranked requirement
of a straight.

The main thing to understand about the ranking of these hands is that the premium cards can be played from any position but the lower ranked cards should be folded unless forced to play from the blinds or in late position with the intention of stealing the blinds if the opponents are passive
